Out-of-contract Rangers star drops big hint over future as teammate given Ibrox snub

There is a feeling of what might’ve been with Kemar Roofe at Rangers.

The former Leeds United striker was signed in the summer of 2020 and was the club’s top Scottish Premiership scorer (18) as we secured 55.

There was real hope Kemar Roofe would kick on at Rangers from this achievement but every single one of his three years since have been dominated by injury problems.

An expensive £4.5m signing from Anderlecht, the striker has occupied an expensive slot in the squad without ever really doing enough to justify it on a consistent basis.

But whilst there might be a feeling of regret in the stands when it comes to Kemar, the striker has dropped a huge hint regarding his future after a brief appearance in the 5-2 win over Dundee.

Roofe drops Instagram hint over future

Kemar Roofe replaced Fabio Silva for the final seven minutes of Rangers’ victory over Dundee at Ibrox.

It might well be the striker’s final game at Ibrox, as the Rangers team’s Premiership collapse resulted in a lap of honour to forget with the club’s ultras leaving the stadium on the final whistle.

It’s perhaps resulted in a tinge of sadness around the upcoming summer exits but Kemar Roofe showed there is no bad blood, hinting that the end if nigh in an Instagram post come full time.

“Ibrox,” the striker started. “It’s been a pleasure. Thanks for having me.”

There have been some big moments for Kemar Roofe at Ibrox over the years.

Not least an Old Firm double back in 2021 and a crucial goal against FC Braga on the run to the Europa League Final.

But even the striker will admit that the paltry return of only 102 appearances and approximately 4825 minutes in four seasons (roughly 25 appearances, 1205 minutes, and 13 full 90 minutes per season) has not been good enough.

On his day the striker, who has scored 38 goals for Rangers, was as natural a finisher as we’ve had at Ibrox this Millenium but injuries have devastated the 31-year-old’s time in Glasgow.

Rangers contract situation ‘not good’

Whilst Kemar Roofe might’ve got his final game at Ibrox, there was no such luck for the other out-of-contract players in the squad.

Midfielder John Lundstram missed the game through suspension following his controversial red card against Celtic.

Scotland international Ryan Jack and Nigerian teammate Leon Balogun were also unavailable through injury.

The only fellow out of contract star who was selected in the full squad was Croatian international Borna Barisic, with Robbie Fraser preferred to the left-back as a second half substitute.

It meant no send-off for Borna Barisic at Ibrox, with the six-year servant spotted looking pretty emotional come full-time.

Reports have suggested the 31-year-old defender has agreed a deal with Turkish side Trabzsonpor.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement was also heavily critical of the situation with the out of contract players at the club come the final whistle.

“This club comes out of a financially difficult situation,” Clement told the press post-match.

“It’s not a good thing to have six players out of contract so they don’t have any value to sell.

“And then you need to make decisions if they stay or not.

“The club needs for the future to get also money in by producing or making players better.

“By getting young players in and to make them better (so) that you can sell them later on.”

Kemar Roofe still has two more chances to end his Rangers career on a high, with a trip to Tynecastle to face Hearts this weekend and a Scottish Cup Final v Celtic come the end of the 25th of May.
