Release clause removed as Man Utd wonderkid target signs new contract, reason explained

Manchester United will certainly be looking to sign a new centre-back during the summer.

Raphael Varane‘s departure at the end of the season was confirmed by the club, with the Red Devils now one centre-back lighter.

United are likely to need more than one. A developmental option may be signed along with more senior player.

One who has been linked is Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino, who has been impressing for the Argentine side since making his debut this past season.

Aaron Anselmino release clause gone

Boca Juniors recognise they will have a tough time hanging onto their in-demand centre-back.

But they have taken a step to try and maximise his value and avoid losing him for cheaper than they wanted to.

Per Argentine outlet Planeta Boca Juniors, Anselmino signed a contract in Janaury which runs to 2028 which had a release clause of £15 million, an increase on a previous figure.

Now, Boca Juniors have had a re-think, and moved to remove the release clause entirely.

Rio Negro report Anselmino has signed an improved contract, which still runs to 2028, but rewards him with an increased wage more reflective of his importance to the club.

Boca Juniors believe Anselmino, 19, is a future Argentina international and hope to hang onto him as long as possible.

This is why the new contract has scrapped the release clause, meaning any interested club must negotiate with them.

With an improved wage described byEl Economista as ‘significant’, Boca hope Anselmino will be in less of a hurry to leave, and now they have a little more control over his future, with £15 million cheap by European clubs standards for a player of his potential.

Anselmino battling injury setback

If there is one red flag over the teenage defender, it’s the injury he sustained just over a month ago.

He was carted off the pitch, in the same game he had scored his first ever professional goal.

He was closing in on a return, however, Infobae report over the past 24 hours that he was unable to complete a recent training session and has been ruled out of their upcoming game.

After a season filled with injuries in defence, Manchester United will want to see Anselmino healed up and back to action before spending money on his signature.
