Report: 'Incredible' player will be sent back to Nottingham Forest this summer

Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall moved to Besiktas on a loan deal in January and now some big news has come to light regarding his future.

It wasn’t a particularly successful first half of the campaign for the Forest central defender.

Some reports claimed that Worrall had taken offence to Steve Cooper leaving him out of the Forest squad for a game against Aston Villa in November.

He wasn’t playing football when the January transfer window came around and Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t see him as part of his plans.

The 27-year-old had made just seven appearances in the Premier League, totalling 439 minutes during the 2023/24 campaign.

When Besiktas came knocking he left on loan and now an update on his time in Turkey has come to light.

Report shares update on Joe Worrall future at Besiktas

His time with Istanbul-based outfit Besiktas hasn’t really gone according to play for Worrall – and the writing looks to be on the wall.

According to the Turkish outlet Milliyet, Besiktas have now decided to part ways with Worrall and won’t be taking up the option to buy the Forest player.

It leaves the defender in a difficult situation and it feels as though he will now report to Forest for pre-season training.

This doesn’t really come as a surprise given that Worrall has barely featured for Besiktas since signing in January.

He’s made just eight appearances for the team and was an unused substitute on Saturday against Alanyaspor.

The highlight of Worrall’s time in Turkey came against Rizespor when Worrall scored a last-minute winner, with Jonjo Shelvey playing for the opposition.

Nuno Espirito Santo could take proper look at Forest captain Worrall

It was a case of needs must when Espirito Santo came to Forest and perhaps pre-season will give Worrall a clean slate.

Murillo is being courted by a host of clubs and could leave, whilst Felipe is retiring and Willy Boly is out of contract.

That could mean that Worrall gets a proper chance to show that he can improve under Espirito Santo ahead of the new campaign.

The defender who came through the academy ranks has made 226 appearances for the Reds and was instrumental as the club won promotion.

Cooper was actually a big fan of Worrall before the two had a disagreement and in September he called him ‘incredible’.

Forest will have a big decision to make themselves on Worrall after this one made by Besiktas.

The situation involving FFP could come into play and Forest might feel that a reprieve for Worrall could save the club money.

However, on the other hand, the club may feel that selling him is now the only option and Worrall leaving would help streamline the squad.

Given what Worrall has done for Forest it will be interesting to see how this one plays out in the summer.
