‘The truth’: International manager opens up on how Dominik Szoboszlai is really feeling at Liverpool right now

Dominik Szoboszlai’s international manager, Marco Rossi, has explained what the Hungarian will be feeling at Liverpool right now.

The way Dominik Szoboszlai started his Liverpool career, it felt like nothing was going to stop him. However, in the last few months, it feels like that exciting start is merely a remnant memory.

Szoboszlai has struggled to make an impact in the Liverpool team since the turn of the year. Just as the entire team struggled to maintain their fight for the Premier League title.

This has seen the Hungarian demoted to Jurgen Klopp’s bench and reduced to 10-20 minute cameos. Something that will concern both Liverpool and Hungarian national team supporters alike.

Marco Rossi on how Dominik Szoboszlai is feeling at Liverpool right now

His Hungarian national team manager, Marco Rossi, has opened up on Szoboszlai’s disappointing time in the last few weeks and vehemently defended the Liverpool midfielder.

Speaking to M4 Sport in Hungary following his squad announcement for Euro 2024, Rossi was asked about Szoboszlai’s situation.

“If I have to say the truth knowing Dominik I don’t think he will arrive depressed,” Rossi said.

“I think that he’s thinking that in the time that he’s not spending on the pitch with Liverpool will give him more power and more freshness for our matches. I hope for this.

“But I think that he’s already focused on what he would like to do and he will do [at the Euros] because in this moment, yesterday [against Aston Villa] he played 20 minutes so it was just a warm up for him. Probably the next match will be the same.

He’s already focused on the European Championship. He will arrive fresh and this is good overall for us. I think also that he will not suffer under the psychological aspect of this situation.”

Why Marco Rossi is right about Dominik Szoboszlai

No one knows Szoboszlai better than Rossi himself. The Italian gave Szoboszlai his debut in the senior national team and he was also the manager who made him captain.

The reality is that Szoboszlai played a lot of games at the start of the season. Clearly, just like the rest of the team, his energy has been drained towards the end of the campaign.

This rest ahead of Euro 2024 could do him well. He will be desperate to do well at the tournament with Hungary and then return in the best possible form to Liverpool.
