Nelson Semedo now sends classy message to Wolves fans after winning Players' Player of the Season

Defender Nelson Semedo has now reacted after being named the Players’ Player of the Season at Wolves.

Wanderers fell to a 3-1 loss in their final home game of the season on Saturday, and then it was time for individual awards to be handed out.

Mario Lemina was named the Supporters’ Player of the Season and on Monday he sent an emotional message to fans on social media following his win.

Pablo Sarabia picked up the Goal of the Season award, for his stunning effort against Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux.

Also among the winners was Nelson Semedo, who was voted as the Players’ Player of the Season.

Semedo has enjoyed a terrific campaign in 2023/24, featuring heavily under Gary O’Neil and last night, he also took to social media to send a message…

Semedo is bringing down the curtain on his fourth season at Molineux, and it’s fairly safe to say that this has been his best campaign so far – and he himself thinks that too.

Semedo has made 40 appearances across all competitions, and only captain Max Kilman has spent more time on the pitch than he has.

The Portugal international has been the clear preference at right wing-back, making life difficult for Matt Doherty, who returned to the club last summer on a free transfer.

Semedo has always been a popular member of the dressing room.

But his peers have felt this time around that he is deserving of the Player of the Season, and Semedo last night took to social media to send a message following his win.

He said: “Despite the result, I want to thank you fans for all your support during the away season, but especially at home with you, we are stronger.

“To my teammates, thank you to everyone who voted for me as the best player of the year, I thank you for the recognition.

“I will continue to work so that we can be better every day, despite it being an individual award, I think this trophy belongs to all of us players and the whole staff, you push me to be better and that’s why we are a family.”

Wolves should try and keep Semedo unless a top offer comes in

It has undoubtedly been a really solid season for Semedo, who has improved his defending considerably.

The attacking output could still be better. Semedo often pushes up very high, and really ought to have more goals and assists to his name.

But he has developed into a really strong option on that right wide, and it is little wonder O’Neil has been so take by him.

Recently, there has been some speculation that Semedo could be leaving this summer, given he is entering the final year of his contract and is a high earner.

Wolves may look to cash in, but they should only do that if a relatively big offer comes in. Because it would certainly be difficult to replace him and his experience.
