Liverpool set to hire coach who was going to be ‘key’ to his country at Euro 2024

Liverpool are gearing up to announce their new coaching team following Jurgen Klopp’s exit.

The Reds are still yet to officially announce Klopp’s replacement, although it’s now certain to be Feyenoord’s Arne Slot.

As per the latest reports, Liverpool are just waiting for the right timing to put out a statement regarding Slot’s hiring. It now seems likely that it will be after Klopp’s final game on Sunday.

In the meantime, work is being done behind the scenes to assemble who the Dutch coach will bring with him from Feyenoord.

With the way modern football works, Slot’s coaching team will arguably be almost as important as the man himself. As a result, Liverpool fans will be keen to get to know who will be replacing the likes of Pep Lijnders.

Liverpool closing in on Sipke Hulshoff

Lijnders has been a massive part of Liverpool’s success under Klopp. With the 41-year-old looking likely to join RB Salzburg as manager, it’ll be interesting to see where his career goes from here.

Just like Slot with Klopp, whoever follows Lijnders is going to have big shoes to fill at Anfield. The Dutchman has plenty of admirers.

Thankfully, the new man looks to be up for the job. It has already been widely reported that Slot will take his Feyenoord assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, with him to Liverpool.

As was announced on Tuesday, Hulshoff has now left his duel position as assistant to Ronald Koeman with the Netherlands national team. And according to journalist Ben Jacobs for The Daily Briefing, Liverpool saw this as a vital step to putting their new team in place.

“Slot’s assistant will be Sipke Hulshoff, and the delay on finalising everything was down to his own Liverpool contract,” says Jacobs.

“Hulshoff was also assistant to Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman and was set to be a key part of the coaching staff for Euro 2024. But Liverpool didn’t want a delayed start date, so Hulshoff was happy to step down from his role and has been replaced today by Dwight Lodeweges.”

Who else is joining Arne Slot’s team

Along with Klopp, there looks set to be a bit of an exodus from Liverpool’s coaching team this summer.

As well as the key men, it has been confirmed that head of goalkeeping John Achterberg will also be leaving. Others may yet follow.

So, Slot has a job on his hands to replace them all. Up until now, three names are said to be joining: Ruben Peeters, Etienne Reijnen and Hulshoff.

With Feyenoord claimed to be adamant that Slot will not take anymore with him, it’ll be fascinating to see who fills the remaining positions.

Hulshoff will be the key man though, so it’s great to have things tied up with him. It’s a shame for him that he won’t be there to help Virgil van Dijk and co this summer, but bigger things are calling.
