‘Wouldn’t be surprised’: Journalist says he wouldn’t be shocked if £40m Newcastle player ended up at Liverpool

The transfer window is on the horizon, and the rumour mill is already turning.

Indeed, silly season is upon us, and some strange rumours are already starting to do the rounds.

This week, some interesting reports around Anthony Gordon and Liverpool started to do the rounds, and while these reports were easy to laugh off as being nothing but rumour, according to Ian Doyle, speaking on the Blood Red Podcast, they’re not as far-fetched as you may think.

Doyle says that he can’t actually see Gordon signing for Liverpool this summer, but, at the same time, he says that he wouldn’t be shocked at all if the Newcastle star ended up at Anfield at one point.

Anthony Gordon could end up at Liverpool

Doyle spoke about the £40m Newcastle star and a potential move to Liverpool.

“I think the only way he leaves Newcastle is if he agitates for a move. I’m not necessarily saying it’s this summer, I don’t think it will be this summer,” Doyle said.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up at Liverpool at one point, put it that way, but he is the kind of player they need and he’s come on a long way.”

Anthony Gordon to Liverpool would be complicated

This is a transfer that would cause a lot of potential drama.

An Everton academy graduate ending up at Liverpool would cause huge uproar across Merseyside.

Gordon is certainly good enough to end up at a club like Liverpool, but, in the same breath, Newcastle are currently heading in the right direction, and there’s no reason why he can’t get professional fulfilment on Tyneside.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming years as this would perhaps be one of the most controversial signings Liverpool could make.
