‘A bit scared’ Erling Haaland says he was absolutely terrified by two incidents in Man City vs Spurs

Erling Haaland has said that two incidents during Manchester City’s recent 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur had him feeling very scared.

The Citizens put themselves two points ahead at the top of the league table last night with their first-ever win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With just one game left to play before the campaign ends, a win over West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday would see the Manchester club become the first side to win four Premier League titles in a row.

After taking his tally of league goals for the season to 27 last night, Haaland shared some insight about how he felt during some of the critical moments of this latest game.

Haaland says he was ‘scared’ during key moments of Man City vs Spurs

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day (via BBC Sport), Haaland had this to say when asked how he felt when he was about to take the late penalty he scored to put City 2-0 up.

He said: “I was really nervous, scared of course, but also a bit excited. It was all about getting the ball into the back of the net. That’s what I did, so happy, relaxed, focus on the next one.”

The striker was then asked if he had any nerves about Kevin De Bruyne being potentially offside when he delivered the assist for Haaland’s first goal of the game.

He said: “Yeah, a little bit. I saw Kev was on the line and was a bit scared it was offside. You never know. But that is why we have VAR, they checked it and it was a goal so it was fantastic.”

Haaland overcame his fears to deliver for Man City

In terms of being worried that VAR may have ruled out the first goal if De Bruyne was offside – which he wasn’t – as well as feeling nervous when he was taking the late penalty, given how crucial this game was for City’s title hopes, it comes as no surprise to us that Haaland felt this way in these two instances.
