Officials and VAR confirmed for Celtic vs Rangers Scottish Cup final

As well as looking to wrap up the Scottish Premiership tonight against Kilmarnock, Celtic also have another huge game to look forward to at the end of the season.

The Scottish Cup final beckons as another Glasgow Derby stands between Celtic and the famous old trophy as Brendan Rodgers looks to scoop a double in his return to Parkhead.

The Celtic manager has faced Rangers 17 times during both stints in Glasgow and has emerged victorious on 13 occasions.

However, in the Scottish Cup Rodgers has faced the Ibrox club twice at the semi-final stages and on both occasions has oversaw a 2-0 and 4-0 win over our rivals.

But on the 25th of May, it will be Rodgers’ first time facing Rangers in a major final and this afternoon the SFA have just announced who will be officiating the game.

Nick Walsh appointed to big Celtic vs Rangers clash

Nick Walsh has been handed the whistle for the end-of-season showpiece finale. The 33-year-old has been the main man in games involving Celtic 32 times over the course of his career.

From those, Celtic have won 15, drawn nine and lost nine with Walsh brandishing 45 yellow cards, one red and awarding ten penalties. [Transfermarkt]

Walsh has also officiated three Glasgow Derby’s with the biggest of the trio being the 2-1 Celtic League Cup final win over Rangers in 2023.

He was also involved in the controversial VAR decision to award Rangers a penalty in the 3-3 Ibrox draw earlier this season.

Assisting Walsh will Calum Spence and David Roome on the touchlines and the Fourth Official will be Steven McLean.

Taking charge of VAR is the controversial John Beaton and assisting him is David McGeachie.

Hopefully, we will be talking about a Celtic win and the football on display rather than the officials as Brendan Rodgers looks to continue his remarkable unbeaten run in the Scottish Cup and claim what could be his ninth trophy as the Hoops boss.
