‘Didn’t really’: Ange Postecoglou says Spurs stopped Man City from doing something they usually do

Ange Postecoglou has said that his Tottenham Hotspur side stopped Manchester City from doing something they usually do in last night’s game between the two sides.

In their final away match of the Premier League season, City secured a 2-0 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to put them two points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table.

Having gone in at halftime with the score at 0-0, two second-half goals from Erling Haaland saw the Blues walk away from North London with three points.

After the game, the Spurs boss shared his thoughts on how the game panned out and dropped a claim about what his side did against the reigning champions.

Speaking to the North London club’s media after the match, Postecoglou said this about the game and what he saw from City and his side on the night.

He said: “I thought they didn’t really dominate in the areas they usually dominate.

“I thought we had good control for the most part and limited their opportunities, had some moments ourselves.

“Conceding the first goal was disappointing because there was a lack of discipline there but after that, we had two or three really good chances to get back in the game and you’ve got to take them against opposition like City.”

The result was all that mattered for City

Looking back over the match, Spurs had more possession (53% vs 47%) than City and even racked up more shots at goal than the away side (10 vs 8).

They also made more accurate passes (541 vs 476) than City, which further backs up Postecoglou’s point about his side having the edge in terms of possession and chances.

Bearing in mind how City have the highest average of possession (65.1%) in the Premier League for this season and the highest number of goal-creating actions (163), it’s safe to say that they aren’t used to having less possession and fewer attempts than their opponents.

However, at this stage of the season, it’s the results that mean the most for the Manchester club as they look to win yet another league title.
