‘A masterclass’: Pep Guardiola says £30m Man City player was ‘unbelievable’ against Tottenham Hotspur

Pep Guardiola has said that one of his Manchester City players delivered a masterclass performance in their recent win over Tottenham Hotspur.

For the first time ever, the Manchester club won a Premier League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a 2-0 scoreline.

This victory put the Blues two points ahead of Arsenal at the top of the table ahead of Sunday’s final day of the season.

Ultimately, if City beat West Ham United at the weekend, they’ll be crowned league champions once again.

After the final whistle blew in North London last night, the City boss couldn’t help but share some significant praise for one particular player in his side for what he did on the pitch.

Speaking to the media (via Viaplay) after the match, Guardiola had this to say about Mateo Kovacic’s performance against Spurs.

He said: “Kovacic today was unbelievable. The game from Kovacic was the masterpiece. A masterclass with the ball and without. It was really good.”

Kovacic delivered another key performance for City

The midfielder completed the full 90 minutes against Spurs, making it the fourth time he’s done so across his six previous league appearances.

With 87 touches of the ball last night, the Croatian was able to successfully complete 70 of the 73 passes he attempted.

This gave him a passing accuracy percentage of 96%, the second-highest in City’s starting XI behind Ruben Dias (97%).

In addition to that, the midfielder, who City paid £30m to sign from Chelsea last summer, made three tackles and three interceptions to help his side secure one of their biggest results of the season.

This display ultimately earned Kovacic an overall match rating of 7.2/10 from SofaScore, which is higher than the likes of Bernardo Silva (7/10), Phil Foden (6.7/10) and Manuel Akanji (6.9/10) managed to earn for themselves.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Guardiola was so full of praise for Kovacic and his latest performance for the title-chasing Blues.
