‘Going to be one of the best’: Pundit says Tottenham have a £35m player who will be world-class

Tottenham have a number of players in their squad who seemingly aren’t good enough.

Spurs won’t be playing Champions League football once again next season, and, as you can imagine, the inquest has begun into what’s wrong with this Tottenham team.

Speaking on Off The Ball, Keith Treacy has noted that he thinks Tottenham’s defence is a big issue. However, he did reserve some special praise for one player.

Indeed, while Treacy said that a number of Spurs’ defenders are poor, he did say that Micky van de Ven isn’t a problem player, tipping the £35m man to become one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League.

Micky van de Ven will be fantastic

Treacy spoke about Van de Ven and his potential.

“Full-backs, look, I don’t think Micky van de Ven is a problem, I think he’s going to be one of the best centre-halves in the league, but Pedro Porro for me and I think Romero can be rash as well. The first goal was so flimsy,” Treacy said.

Van de Ven is already getting there

Treacy says that Van de Ven will be one of the best defenders in the Premier League, but there’s an argument to make that he’s already there.

The Dutchman has barely put a foot wrong for Tottenham this season – aside from the Newcastle game, and he’s taken to life at Spurs like a duck to water.

Of course, huge questions remain over whether Ange Postecoglou’s style of defending can ever work in the Premier League, but, individually, Van de Ven has more than proven that he’s capable of being a top player.

At the age of just 22, this young man will continue to improve, and while Tottenham’s defence is a bit of a mess right now, Van de Ven is someone Spurs could build their backline around in the coming years.
