On May 15, the United States imposed sanctions against the training center of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Nicaragua, according to the US Treasury Department.

It is noted that the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control is targeting Daniel Ortega's regime and its ability to manipulate the gold sector and profit from corrupt operations.

That is why today the US imposed sanctions against the training center of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Managua, as well as COMINTSA and Capital Mining companies.

The Ministry of Finance clarified that the training center of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs is based in the capital of Nicaragua. It teaches local security forces the rules of oppression that the Russian authoritarian regime is already using. The United States has called this structure a key actor in the repression of local civil society.

US pressures Nicaragua over ties with Russia

Nicaragua supports Russia and has close contact with it. This was evident, in particular, during the voting at the UN General Assembly.

Therefore, in March, the United States decided to stop supplying arms to Nicaragua. This is due to the country's increased cooperation with Russia.
