Report: PL striker wanted by West Ham earlier this year could now cost just £25m, down from £50m

West Ham United are set for a busy transfer window as the David Moyes era ends and a new era begins.

Julen Lopetegui has reportedly agreed a deal to take over the Hammers from Moyes at the end of the season.

One of the first things on the West Ham agenda will be transfer business, and there’s a good chance the Hammers will be on the lookout for a new striker.

Now, a forward who was linked with West Ham in January could now cost just £25million, down from a £50million valuation.

The player in question is Chelsea’s Armando Broja, who is on loan at Fulham until the end of the season.

Back in January, Fabrizio Romano told GiveMeSport: “West Ham have always been big admirers of the player.”

Broja ended up joining Fulham in the end, but his loan at Craven Cottage hasn’t gone particularly well.

The 22-year-old has featured just eight for the west Londoners, for a total of 80 minutes, and has one assist and no goals to his name.

Now, Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport that Chelsea may be forced to settle for just £25million for Broja.

This is £10million less than what they realistically thought they’d get, and just half of the £50million they hoped to earn from the player’s sale.

What has Ben Jacobs said about reported West Ham target Armando Broja?

“I think Chelsea would bite their hand off if a suitor offered £35million for Amando Broja,” said Jacobs.

“And very possibly now will have to consider offers between £25-£30million in order to get a permanent sale.

“Maybe they will consider a loan with an option or an obligation, again to bring in some short-term finances and resolve the situation.

“But it certainly won’t be easy to get even the lower end of their original valuation for Broja just because he’s not been playing he’s not been scoring.”

West Ham have the chance to kickstart Armando Broja career

Admittedly, Broja’s numbers this season don’t make for great reading, but at 22 years old, he still has his whole career ahead of him.

Out-of-form players can often turn out to be bargains if whoever signs them can coach them and man-manage them properly.

Broja is clearly a talented player and, with the right guidance, West Ham could get themselves an exciting prospect who could go on to become a goal machine at the London Stadium.
