'The club needs to': Bruno Fernandes addresses his Manchester United future amid transfer speculation

Bruno Fernandes has shared his position on his Manchester United future amid speculation he could leave the club this summer.

Bruno Fernandes returned to the starting XI in Wednesday’s victory over Newcastle United and showed exactly what Manchester United had been missing.

The captain was the Player of the Match with another all-action performance which saw him create goals for Amad and Rasmus Hojlund in the 3-2 win.

Fernandes’ fantastic display comes in a week when his future at the club has come into question amid reports he could be open to a summer transfer.

Bayern Munich and Inter have both been credited with interest, according to the Manchester Evening News, and Erik ten Hag was even asked about the speculation ahead of Wednesday’s game.

Now Fernandes himself has directly addressed his future at United.

Bruno Fernandes asked about his Manchester United future

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports following the victory, Fernandes was asked if he will ‘be a part of that future, leading this club back to where they want to be?’

Fernandes replied: “I will be until, I said, the club needs to want me.

“I feel that the club wants me to be part of the future. So as I said always, I don’t want to be a player that the club doesn’t want to have.

“If for some reason they don’t want to have me I will go but if they want me I will stay.”

Bruno Fernandes’ comments must be music to United fans’ ears

Well, that should all but settle it then.

If Fernandes’ future will be determined by the club wanting him to stay then there is surely no chance of him leaving.

As was proven again during the defeats to Crystal Palace and Arsenal which he missed and then United’s much-improved performance when he was back, the 29-year-old is the club’s most important player.

Captain, talisman, creative force, hard worker capable of dragging moments of magic from nowhere, it’s scary to think where United would be without Fernandes this season and in previous years.

United would be extraordinarily foolish to sell him this summer – andthey are reportedly not even considering it – so it’s hard to see him going anywhere any time soon.
