Ange Postecoglou admits he’s now expecting big things from ‘outstanding’ Tottenham player after Tuesday

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now admitted he is expecting big things from one Spurs player after Tuesday night.

Just one game remains before the 2023/24 campaign comes to an end for Tottenham with a trip to Bramall Lane on the weekend.

Ange Postecoglou‘s emotions got the better of him after the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he unleashed in his post-match press conference.

However, it was not all negative that came from the Australian after the game although the Tottenham fans were aimed at by the Spurs boss.

The second half of the season has seen several Tottenham players’ form fall off a cliff since the turn of the year.

But there was one player who really impressed the 58-year-old on Tuesday night and he has admitted he’s now expecting more to come.

Tottenham have not looked like the team they were in the early stages of the season for a number of months now.

Injuries have certainly not helped Spurs with some big players like Micky van de Ven and James Maddison suffering from serious setbacks.

But that has not provided too many opportunities to the players flourishing in the Tottenham academy this season.

However, last night saw one player handed his Spurs debut when Mikey Moore’s recent displays in Hotspur Way training saw him rewarded with an appearance from the bench.

Moore became the youngest player to ever make an appearance for Spurs in the Premier League at the age of 16 years, 10 months and 14 days.

Speaking to the media after the game, Postecoglou hailed the “outstanding” 16-year-old for what he has shown at such a young age.

“He’s been training well with us, we wanted to get him some game time, it just hasn’t panned out in the last few games, it was an opportunity to just get him out there,” he said.

“He’s still got a long way to go, he’s only 16, he’s a great kid. It’s a reward, because we’ve had him training with us and he hasn’t been playing with the U21s either, we thought it wouldn’t be fair to not reward his hard work with an appearance.”

What Mikey Moore said after making his debut

There may be a few Spurs youngsters who were watching on Tuesday night wishing they had been provided an opportunity by Postecoglou.

But Moore has been impressing the Australian and the other Spurs coaches in training over recent weeks.

Moore was only supposed to train with the first team for a week, but his impressive displays have meant he has not returned to the U18s side since.

And it was clear the youngster really enjoyed his brief spell on the pitch against the champions-elect as he spoke to the club’s media team.

“It was good. The pace was so quick. It felt crazy coming on, it felt like I was playing FIFA. It felt mad,” he said.

“Coming on and trying to press, they moved the ball so quick. I got a couple of touches of the ball and hopefully some more soon.”
