Ange Postecoglou shares very honest thoughts about Tottenham fans in Manchester City loss

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou did not shy away from letting his feelings known on Tuesday night after losing to Manchester City.

Any remaining hope of qualifying for the Champions League came to an end last night after Pep Guardiola’s side took all three points from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is a game which many Tottenham fans are probably glad is now out of the way following the whole media circus which has accompanied it.

But it has sealed the fate of Ange Postecoglou‘s faint Champions League hopes with Aston Villa sealing fourth spot with just one game remaining.

However, the 58-year-old Spurs manager was clearly not pleased at all following full-time in north London as his side tasted defeat for the fifth time in six games.

The fixture brought a conundrum for some Spurs fans with anything other than a City win handing Arsenal a huge advantage in lifting the title this weekend.

And it seems the response from the Spurs fans has not gone down well with the Australian manager.

What Ange Postecoglou said about the Tottenham fans on Tuesday

Despite what many Arsenal fans may have thought going into the game, Spurs actually gave it a real good go on Tuesday night.

It is probably the best Tottenham have looked in weeks as they pushed Guardiola’s side in the first half of the game.

Erling Haaland provided the difference in the second half which has meant City can now decide their own fate on the weekend against West Ham.

However, the fans took the brunt of Postecoglou’s frustrations after the game in what was perhaps the Australian’s spikiest press conference yet.

Speaking after the match to beIN Sports, the 58-year-old admitted he was disappointed with the atmosphere created with the crowd.

“It wasn’t the usual home atmosphere, but we just had to deal with that,” he said following full-time.

And his frustrations continued into his press conference where he slammed the mentality of the club.

“I just think the last 48 hours have revealed a fair bit to me. That’s alright. It just means I’ve got to go back to the drawing board with some things,” he added.

How Ange Postecoglou is now proving quite hypocritical after previous comments

It is clear that Postecoglou just wants to win football games no matter what else results from that – and that is absolutely fine.

However, Spurs did not lose out on Champions League solely on last night’s result. Spurs have been dreadful on the whole since they won away to Aston Villa.

Five of the last six games have been defeats, after all.

And as a result, Postecoglou has played down what qualifying for Champions League football would mean to the club.

Qualifying for Europa League is probably this side’s level currently, it shouldn’t damage the transfer plans too much and can provide the club a much more realistic opportunity of a European trophy.

But now it seems Postecoglou was suddenly all in on qualifying for Champions League after months of playing it all down.

The Australian has improved Tottenham, but it does feel as if the fans’ views on the City game were partly-fueled on his constant comments about Champions League qualification.
