'Imagine': Vitaliy Mykolenko excited by what could happen at Everton's new stadium

Everton fans have not been blessed with many things to get excited about, but their brand-new stadium on the waterfront is one of few.

And what a marvellous asset to have just around the corner too, as a state-of-the-art arena set to hopefully propel them into the brighter future that Farhad Moshiri had first promised when he took over in 2016.

Since that fateful year, things have not gone his way, despite his best efforts to funnel as much cash in.

But handing his fortune to the wrong people has resulted in an imbalanced squad lacking quality and confidence, with Sean Dyche the only man in recent years to restore those two traits to an extent.

Remaining safe until the 2025 move-in date is imperative, and the players too will know what it means to the club to ensure that Premier League football is played in their new stadium.

Vitaliy Mykolenko can’t wait for Everton’s Bramley-Moore Dock stadium

Fans cannot wait to depart from Goodison Park, despite how revered the famous old stadium is on Merseyside.

After all, their new home on the Bramley-Moore Dock is set to offer the financial freedom needed to finally compete at the top level, should they start making the right decisions at last.

Not only is it a truly attractive prospect for the supporters, and potentially even players who might yet join the club, but this current squad will also be patiently awaiting stepping out onto that hallowed brand-new turf for the first match.

Vitaliy Mykolenko is one such name, with the £20m Rafael Benitez acquisition having detailed his excitement ahead of their stadium switcharound.

Speaking to Tribuna, relayed by Sport Witness, he sought to explain what he cannot wait to do in the arena, whilst using it as a vessel to aim a sly dig at their Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

The Ukraine international noted: ‘As far as I understand, in Liverpool the Everton fan base is larger.

‘Even with season tickets for a year, for a season, we had statistics somewhere – we have 25,000 out of 40,000. And at the new stadium, imagine what will happen.’

Vitaliy Mykolenko will be a key player for Everton

Admittedly, when Everton first signed Mykolenko, serious doubts were raised about his ability to perform at this level.

After all, his first few games saw him appear hopelessly out of his depth, with one particularly torrid match coming away at Hull City in the FA Cup.

There, he was tortured by the Championship side, who were unlucky to fall to defeat in extra time.

However, the 24-year-old’s turnaround has since been miraculous, and for a period this season many even suggested he was Dyche’s most improved player.

After all, he no longer is liable to be terrorised in such a manner, having picked himself up to post 2.5 tackles, 2.9 clearances and 5.1 ball recoveries per game, via Sofascore.

He blends that with two goals, and whilst he does not always get forward, his crossing has improved tenfold too, having upped his accuracy from 20% to 25% in just a year.

Mykolenko will likely continue to be a key player for Everton and Dyche, especially going into the new stadium.
