Darren Bent says £27m Emery signing would actually get into Arsenal's Invincibles team

Darren Bent has named one current Arsenal player who he thinks would get into the great Invincibles side.

It has been 20 years since Arsenal achieved one of the greatest feats in English football history. The Gunners went an entire season unbeaten in the Premier League in 2003/04, and that record is yet to be matched.

On the 20th anniversary of the Invincibles, Bent claimed that one current Arsenal payer would actually get into Arsene Wenger‘s legendary side.

Darren Bent names the Arsenal invincible he would drop for William Saliba

Arsenal signed William Saliba from Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2019, when Unai Emery was at the helm at the Emirates.

The Frenchman was viewed by many as one of the best young defenders in Europe at the time.

A number of clubs across the continent were interested in signing Saliba, but Arsenal sealed the deal in the end for a fee of £27 million.

Saliba had to spend three spells on loan before he got an opportunity at Arsenal, but since Mikel Arteta gave him his chance, he has been undroppable.

The 23-year-old is arguably the best centre-back in the Premier League right now. He is one of the biggest reasons why the Gunners have challenged for the title two seasons in a row.

Darren Bent has now had his say on Saliba.

The pundit has claimed that he would actually drop Arsenal legend Kolo Toure from the Invincibles squad to accommodate Saliba, even though the Ivorian was a brilliant defender.

Bent said on talkSPORT: “I think I’m going Sol Campbell and Saliba.

“Now, Toure was brilliant by the way. Their partnership was hard to play against. I remember playing against them, trying to run in behind and both of them, like two whippets.

“But, I’d go probably with Saliba.”

William Saliba’s stats in 2023/24 will blow you away

William Saliba has been magnificent for Arsenal this season.

The Frenchman has played every single minute in the Premier League this term, and he has arguably been better than every other centre-half in the country. He is simply a world-class defender.

In 37 games in the English top flight this season, Saliba has averaged 82.5 touches per game and a very impressive 92 per cent passing accuracy.

He has kept 18 clean sheets and averages 1.1 tackles. 2.1 clearances and a stunning 5.6 ball recoveries every game.

Saliba has also made zero errors leading to a goal this season, which is fantastic considering he hasn’t missed a single minute of football for Arsenal in the league this season (SofaScore).

Rival fans will have their own opinions, but we’re convinced Saliba is the best centre-back in the Premier League.
