Chelsea fans notice the same thing about Christopher Nkunku after his display in Brighton victory

Chelsea fans on social media all made the same comment about Christopher Nkunku after watching his performance against Brighton.

Christopher Nkunku scored the winning goal for Chelsea in their 2-1 success away to Brighton on Wednesday night.

The Blues secured yet another three points in the Premier League, extending the streak to four consecutive victories in the top flight. It’s a run that has lifted Mauricio Pochettino’s side up to sixth in the table and put them on the brink of European qualification.

For Chelsea, they now know if they avoid defeat at home to Bournemouth on Sunday’s final day of the season they’ll be playing some form of European football in the next campaign.

Chelsea fans agree on Christopher Nkunku

A selection of Blues supporters on social media all noticed that Nkunku seemed to thrive in his position as a left-winger on Wednesday evening.

The 26-year-old attacker, who’s had a frustrating injury-hit debut season at Chelsea, played a lot of his football at RB Leipzig as a central forward. However, he came on at Brighton as a left-winger to replace Mykhailo Mudryk late in the first-half.

From what Chelsea fans saw from Nkunku in wide areas, they think he could be a long-term solution there.

Here are some of the fanbase discussing the French attacker after the Brighton win:

Another claimed: “I was not a fan of Nkunku playing on the left until today. Nkunku is so intelligent he can play anywhere.”

A third wrote: “Nkunku is much better as a left winger coming inside, that’s how he found space to score because Jackson occupied the CBs and that left a gap for Christo to exploit.”

Another posted: “Just look at the difference when it’s Nkunku on the left rather than Mudryk. Now this isn’t a criticism, nor comparison but Misha needs to learn fast and up his game else he might lose his place in the team.”

Another said: “Our left hand side looks so much better with Nkunku.”

Christopher Nkunku as a left-winger

The Chelsea Chronicle agrees with the supporters that Nkunku is a viable option from the left wing, especially if he’s got a licence to drift infield and help in central pockets.

It’s not been the season he would have dreamed of to start at Stamford Bridge, playing only 13 matches across all competitions. There’s some obvious talent and goalscoring threat that can really help the club moving forward, though.

A big takeaway from the Brighton match is Nkunku hasn’t lost his sharpness in front of goal, netting a first-time finish in the box from a Malo Gusto cross. Also, he’s a superb dribbler that can ask a lot of questions of full-backs.
