'That's a plus': Roy Keane is glad £36m Manchester United player is set to leave this summer transfer window

Roy Keane has admitted he’s glad one Manchester United player is set to leave the club this summer transfer window.

It’s become pretty evident that big change is needed this summer, with Man United on course for an eighth-place finish – their lowest in Premier League history.

Erik ten Hag may be booted out the door by INEOS, with Gareth Southgate mooted as a potential successor.

Either way, whoever is in post, they have a massive rebuild on their hands and one £36m player is already set to leave, which Keane is pleased about.

Roy Keane glad Anthony Martial is set to leave Manchester United

Speaking on Sky Sports, Wayne Rooney and Keane discussed Martial, with the Frenchman set to leave this summer at the end of his contract.

“Like Martial, for instance, I played with him, he’s a really nice guy but where’s he been,?” Rooney said.

“I can’t remember the last time I saw him play. Like what’s up with him?”

Keane: “At least his contract’s up. At least that’s a plus.

“You go listen, off you go but again, it won’t be easy.”

Anthony Martial hasn’t featured since December

Martial hasn’t appeared in a United shirt since December 9, when he started in a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Since then, he’s been out with illness and through groin surgery but from March onwards, it appears he’s just not been selected for the matchday squad.

Why that is, remains to be seen, but he’s likely already played his final game for the club, ending a near nine-year stay at Old Trafford. Here are his United statistics, as per Transfermarkt.

  • Appearances: 317
  • Goals: 90
  • Assists: 47
  • Trophies: 5
