Neco Williams may be very interested in seeing what happens to £45m Newcastle player now - opinion

Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams might just have an eye on Newcastle United affairs over the next couple of weeks.

The Reds right-back has been in pretty good form over the past few months since Nuno Espirito Santo came to the club.

He has missed the last couple of games through injury, however, and he might not play on Sunday either.

Williams has grown as a player at Forest this season, showcasing that he can play in the Premier League after a pretty average 2022/23.

The £17 million signing from Liverpool could now have his eye very closely on a Newcastle player in the coming weeks.

Newcastle star Anthony Gordon slams VAR after Manchester United defeat

Williams, along with Nuno Espirito Santo and Forest are facing FA charges before the end of the season.

That comes on the back of publicly slamming VAR following a 2-0 defeat for Forest against Everton last month.

Now, if things are going to be done consistently, Gordon might find himself in the dock too.

Last night, Newcastle lost 3-2 to Manchester United but things might have been different had Gordon been awarded a penalty by VAR.

He was left with a sore Achilles and a large hole in his sock following a robust tackle from Sofyan Amrabat.

Gordon said after the game: “I don’t see the point of VAR. I get why the referee would miss it as things happen quickly but I don’t get why VAR doesn’t pick it up.

“Either get rid of it, or get better. It’s really very simple.”

Gordon should be facing same charge as Forest star Williams

The FA and the Premier League have set the precedent by throwing the book at Forest following their defeat to Everton.

Now, it seems only fair that Gordon has to answer some questions about his comments too.

If the player signed by Newcastle for £45 million does get away scot-free, it would surely set a dangerous precedent going forward.

Forest didn’t cover themselves in glory after that game against Everton.

Alan Shearer and Micah Richards took aim at Forest for their outburst on social media – and they had a point.

Forest had every right to feel aggrieved following the incidents but conducting themselves in that fashion wasn’t ideal.

Williams was calm when he had his little rant in the same environment as Gordon during his post-match interview.

As a result, it seems only fair that the pair get the same charges and now it will be fascinating to see if the FA ask Gordon for an explanation.

Forest defender Williams will be watching on with intrigue…
