'As good as there is': Darren Fletcher thinks 62-year-old would be perfect if Nuno leaves Forest

Darren Fletcher has picked one Premier League manager who’d be perfect for Nottingham Forest if they parted with Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Reds head coach has just about achieved mission accomplished this season.

His remit when he replaced Steve Cooper was to get Forest over the line in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

However, despite getting Forest to their goal, the jury remains out in the eyes of some fans and it’s not been an entirely convincing tenure for Espirito Santo.

Darren Fletcher thinks David Moyes would be perfect for Forest

It’s the end of the road for David Moyes at West Ham and he will officially leave after Sunday’s game with Manchester City.

The 62-year-old has taken the Hammers to a European title and it’s perhaps a bit risky for them to let him go.

Fletcher thinks if Espirito Santo does leave Forest then he’d be right at the top of the list for the City Ground role.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “You know what, I will be honest with you, if you want to establish a team in the Premier League, he’s probably as good as there is.

“You know he’s going to be very practical. The shortcomings of this season that we’ve spoke about today; game management, set-pieces, he’s eradicate that over the course of the summer and I can guarantee they’d manage leads better.

“There is nothing that he hasn’t seen. There is this stigma attached that he might not play the kind of football that fans want to see but I don’t think Forest are in a position where they can be too snobby about that.

“If you turned around and said we will give this guy the job and over the next season we will move six or seven places up the Premier League table because of his experience, I think people would accept it

“I think he’s a great option based on where Forest are and what they want to do. He’s turned West Ham from strugglers to European trophy winners.”

Moyes would be solid if unspectacular City Ground appointment

It’s hard to disagree with what Fletcher is saying but it’s hard to imagine every Forest fan being happy with it.

Some of the Reds fan base felt as though appointing Espirito Santo was a backward step from Cooper and this could feel similar.

In our view, West Ham have perhaps treated Moyes with a bit of untoward given what he’s done for their football club.

Forest would love to stabilise in the Premier League and Fletcher is right to suggest that Moyes would be quality.

It’s hard to imagine that he’d want to jump straight back into management and that would make appointing him difficult for any club.

At 62-years-old, Moyes is a quality manager, although there would be a solid if unspectacular feel to his arrival.

Moyes does have the experience but the style of play could prove a bit more pragmatic than Espirito Santo and perhaps that wouldn’t go down well in the stands.
