Report: PSG are now ready to sell £140k-a-week player after blocking move to Chelsea in January

Chelsea could have the chance to sign one defender who they were reportedly interested in in January this summer.

A new centre-back could be on the agenda for Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window.

Right now, Mauricio Pochettino has Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana in his squad.

However, Silva is leaving Chelsea at the end of the season to join Fluminense, while the likes of Chalobah and Fofana have had bad injury problems this term.

The latter has not played a game in the current campaign, but Pochettino is hopeful of having him back in time for pre-season.

Chelsea’s late interest in Paris Saint-Germain man

Paris Saint-Germain have some good defenders, with their captain Marquinhos coming to mind.

The Ligue 1 champions also have Nordi Mukiele, who can play in the middle of a back four.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Chelsea showed late interest in the 26-year-old at the end of the January transfer window.

PSG refused to sell Mukiele to the Blues, but the same outlet now claims that they will not stand in his way this summer after blocking a move to Stamford Bridge earlier in the year.

As per Capology, the Frenchman earns around £140,000 a week at the Parc des Princes.

Why it would not be a surprise to see Chelsea make a move for Nordi Mukiele

Chelsea signed defenders Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile from Ligue 1, with both players arriving from AS Monaco, while the French league is a division co-sporting director Laurence Stewart knows well.

He also spent time at Monaco and Mukiele’s former club RB Leipzig, which could explain the links to the PSG player.

But as well as that, Mukiele is quite versatile. The France international can play at both right-back and centre-back.

That could come in handy if Chelsea captain Reece James continues to get injured and keeps picking up stupid red cards like the one he received in his side’s 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.
