Sawston & Babraham get the better of Thurlow Nunn East Anglian Premier League champions Swardeston

Sawston & Babraham (302-4) came out on top in the battle of the recent Thurlow Nunn East Anglian Premier League champions as they defeated Swardeston (233) by 69 runs on Saturday.

The Rams, who won the title in 2021 and 2022, batted first against the previous campaign’s league winners.

Callum Guest top scored for the hosts with a knock of 73 runs, while Noah Thain (59), Alex Evans (55 not out) and Jack Beaumont (54) all contributed half centuries.

Having impressed with the bat, Guest went on to follow suit with the ball in hand as he recorded figures of 4-45 from his nine overs.

Among Guest’s haul was the crucial wicket of Swardeston’s Callum Taylor, who was caught by Evans for 73.

James Vandepeer also weighed in with 3-26, while there was a wicket apiece for Beaumont and George Darlow.

Sixth-placed Sawston & Babraham will go in search of their third win this year on Saturday (18 May) when they make the short journey to basement side Saffron Walden.
