Four right-backs Manchester United could sign to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka

If Manchester United keep exactly the same squad, the need for a new right-back is not as obvious as a striker, where the team is light.

But sticking with the same squad will get Manchester United nowhere, and new investors Ineos recognise the need for a shake-up. Right-back is a position where the squad could be upgraded.

While Diogo Dalot is under a long-term deal after signing a contract renewal in 2023, no offer has been made to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United triggered a one-year option on Wan-Bissaka’s deal. This means the club could cash in on him this summer, and he may haveplayed his final home game for the club.

If Wan-Bissaka was sold, what are United’s options in the transfer market? Here is a look at four different options…

Jeremie Frimpong

The most highly priced option of the four. Jeremie Frimpong‘s value and reputation has soared over the past 12 months after a stunning season for Bayer Leverkusen.

Frimpong was keen on a move to United a year ago, but it was not a position of priority for the club.

Since then, the Netherlands international has played a key role for Leverkusen during their unbeaten run across all competitions in 2023/24.

Xabi Alonso will be trying to keep his successful team together, and if Frimpong does leave, it is more likely to be for a Champions League club. HITC report Manchester City are showing interest.

Frimpong would be an expensive investment, who might not be a perfect positional fit. His success at Leverkusen has been as a wing-back.

Denzel Dumfries

Another potentially pricy option, Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries was one of the stars of the World Cup for the Netherlands.

A former teammate of Andre Onana at Inter, he has just won the title in Serie A. That may not be enough to keep him around.

L’Interista report Denzel Dumfries is attracted by the possibility of a move to United. His contract at the club has just 12 months left to run. At 28, it’s possibly United would prefer a younger investment.

The Sun has previously made mention of a swap deal being proposed for Dumfries and Wan-Bissaka.

Vanderson

If it is young potential Manchester United want, then a swoop on Monaco full-back Vanderson is one to watch.

Vanderson was signed by talent-spotted Paul Mitchell, and the Brazilian is only 22. He has scored three times this season.

90Min reported last November that Vanderson was a player of interest to Manchester United, and he could be a player the club decide to invest in if the price is right.

Amar Dedic

Another younger and even cheaper option is Red Bull Salzburg defenderAmar Dedic.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international was linked to United in March 2023, per 90Min, and has continued to build his reputation and experience.

Dedic, 21, has 10 goal contributions this season for his side and despite his contract to June 2027, he might present the best value long-term of all four players.
