Heung-min Son speaks on his miss for Tottenham v Manchester City for the first time

Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son has now spoken out on his miss against Manchester City for the first time since Tuesday.

Champions League qualification is now off the cards for Tottenham going into their final game of the season against Sheffield United.

Defeat on Tuesday night against Pep Guardiola’s side confirmed that with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium very much holding a mixed response to the loss.

And that was something which did not go down well with Ange Postecoglou who unleashed his anger on one specific Spurs fan during the game.

The game could have been very different had Heung-min Son taken his golden opportunity to level the proceedings in the latter stages of the game.

But having failed to beat Stefan Ortega in front of the south stand, the Spurs captain has now spoken about the miss for the first time.

What Heung-min Son has said about his Manchester City miss

It has been an impressive season on the whole for the South Korean who has returned 17 goals and nine assists for Spurs.

However, he has endured some struggles in front of goal recently with just two goals to his name since the end of March.

Perhaps the season’s efforts which have included the Asian Cup are catching up on the 31-year-old who has taken on the responsibility up top since Harry Kane‘s exit in the summer.

But, it has to be said, the reaction of Pep Guardiola summed up the magnitude of Son’s miss on Tuesday night.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Son has now praised the City goalkeeper for the save he made in the latter stages of the game.

“I’m also human. The keeper made a really good decision and made himself really big,” he said.

“But I take the responsibility not to score that big chance for the team, because the team was working really hard and trying to get a good result.”

Heung-min Son has been one of the best in front of goal this season

It was a huge miss from the South Korean on Tuesday, but that should not deter from what has been a sensational season for him on the whole.

According to WhoScored, only Cole Palmer (68%) has a better big-chance conversion rate than Son (63%) this season in the Premier League.

Son has missed seven big chances now this season – which may seem a lot. However, when Brennan Johnson has missed 15 it does put it into perspective how good Son has been this season.

A busy summer in Asia awaits Tottenham and Spurs will be hoping to see Son rest up when he can with South Korea having two World Cup Qualifiers next month.
