'Struggled': Paul Merson predicts whether Wolves will spoil Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool farewell this weekend

Wolves take on Liverpool in their final game of the 2023/24 season – and pundit Paul Merson has given one last prediction.

Gary O’Neil takes his shattered players to Anfield on Sunday, and is hopeful of ending the campaign on a positive note. Results have been poor recently, with several players really feeling the pinch.

The injuries that have hit Wolves over the past couple of months have had a big impact on the squad, which was small to begin with.

O’Neil has had to get thrust square pegs into round holes at times, and he’s also had to turn to young players without much experience.

It has been a rollercoaster season, but one that the majority of fans are proud of considering Wolves were expected to really struggle.

Hopefully, Wolves can now round off with a win – and Paul Merson has given his thoughts about Sunday’s clash…

On Sunday, there will be a lot of emotion at Anfield because it is Jurgen Klopp’s final game in charge of the Reds.

The German has been one of the great Premier League managers over the years, and is certainly going to be missed by the Reds faithful.

Wolves fans will likely be glad to see the back of the German, as his record against Wanderers is pretty solid. Ahead of Sunday’s game, he’s managed 15 games against Wolves, winning 11, drawing one and losing three.

O’Neil and the Wolves fans will be hoping the players can spoil Klopp’s farewell party on Sunday by getting a win.

But Paul Merson doesn’t foresee that happening, as he made his prediction for Sportskeeda. Predicting a 3-0 win for Liverpool, he said: “Wolves punched above their weight at the start of the season but have
struggled at the back end due to injuries. You see clubs like Manchester United moaning about injuries but that just makes you think about how teams like Wolves and Luton Town would cope with smaller squads.

“I can’t see anything but a Liverpool win, the players will want to give Jurgen Klopp the send-off he deserves. The atmosphere at Anfield will be electric and they will honour someone who breathed new life into the club and won them the Premier League title after 30 years.”

Wolves must finish in the right way

Results have been pretty bad for the last couple of months at Wolves and O’Neil will be determined to finish on a high.

It will be a very difficult game, because the Liverpool players are likely going to want to give their manager the best possible send-off, as Merson suggests.

Anfield is a hard ground to go to at the best of times, but Wolves could really be up against it on Sunday.

It’s just important that the players give everything they can. We know most of them are dead on their feet at this point, but most fans can accept losing so long as everyone has given all they can.
