Report: Liverpool lead the way to sign the 'best midfielder in Europe'; his club is now awaiting Anfield offer

Liverpool are set for a busy summer as a new era beckons at Anfield with Jurgen Klopp’s impending Anfield exit and Arne Slot taking the reins.

The Reds are also set for changes at boardroom level, with Richard Hughes taking over as sporting director at Anfield in summer.

Slot, Hughes and FSG CEO of Football Michael Edwards will look to build on the Klopp era, and there’s a good chance we’ll see numerous incomings and outgoings.

Liverpool could well look to strengthen their midfield amid an increasingly uncertain future for Thiago Alcantara, who’s out of contract in summer.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a player who has been deemed the ‘best midfielder in Europe’, and there’s been an update on that front.

Italian journalist Emanuele Corazzi has now spoken about the state of play involving Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners, Liverpool and fellow suitors Juventus.

What has been said about Liverpool and Teun Koopmeiners?

On Cronache Live, the pundit highlighted the importance of Liverpool joining the race for the Dutchman, as Atalanta might actually be waiting for the Reds’ offer.

“Atalanta with Koopmeiners is doing exactly what they did with Hojlund,” Corazzi said, via Tuttojuve.

“That is: ‘Juve are interested but let’s wait, let’s see what offers arrive’, because many English bigs, one above all Liverpool, are so interested in Koopmeiners.

“Last year Hojlund had so many offers, Atalanta waited and then sold him to United for a huge sum.

“It’s a bit more difficult for Koopmeiners to go to Juventus should Liverpool come along.”

Tutto Atalanta recently reported that the Reds have already held talks with both La Dea representatives and the player’s agent.

The report also said Liverpool are now a ‘realistic destination’ for the 26-year-old, who has a €60million (£52million) valuation.

Teun Koopmeiners would be a great shout for Liverpool

Liverpool may not be desperate for new midfielders in wake of last season’s overhaul, but with Thiago potentially leaving, at least one slot could be opening up.

In addition, Wataru Endo has been a very solid player, but there could potentially be better options out there with more resale value.

Koopmeiners would be a great shout for Liverpool. He has proven himself at the highest level and is a superb technician who offers a lot defensively and offensively.

Italian football expert Alvise Cagnazzo wrote in the Daily Mail in April: “Koopmeiners is the best midfielder in Europe in terms of performance.

“He has physical strength and technical quality, while tactically he is a central midfielder who with time and experience has come to understand how to be the decisive element.

“In Serie A, he has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in 27 games. He looks like ‘Robocop’, has a physique of steel and will probably be the player to build a cage next to.”
