7 pupsicle DIY recipes to keep your pooch fresh and hydrated through the warmer months

With the hot weather finally rolling in you might want to offset the heat for your pooch with a DIY dog popsicle, or should we say, pupsicle.

Spring is now in full swing and summer is just behind, meaning it’s that time of the year to alter the habits you have been perfecting for the last few months. From wearing more SPF to updating your sunshine skincare routine, the hot weather poses a number of hurdles to overcome. Your dogs are no different and also need their routines shaking up.

Honey & carrot pupsicles

The first DIY dog popsicle comes straight from TikTok’s Doghouse (@doghousewoofs). To create the savory and sweet concoctions, they blended carrot and honey with about a cup of water. These were then poured into glasses as the molds.

Though the flavor is undoubtedly the tastiest part of the recipe, Doghouse’s unique stick method caught the eyes of social media users. Though dogs don’t strictly require something to hold onto, she threw out the usual wooden sticks for her dog’s favorite bone. This way, the entire DIY dog popsicle is edible!

Watermelon pupsicles

If your dog is more of a fruity pooch, then the watermelon pupsicles from The Husky Fam (@thehuskyfam) might be more your speed. As you might have guessed, this recipe entails blending half a watermelon for its signature fruity flavor. From here, top the mold with a carrot for the stick.

But it doesn’t stop there as The Husky Fam created a second layer made from coconut water and meat and a third layer from kiwi. With so many flavors and even more layers, your dog will be obsessed with these all summer.

Apple, carrot & Greek Yogurt pupsicles

Another option could be providing your four-legged friend with pupsicles made from apples, carrots, and every dog’s favorite, Greek yogurt. As you might expect, you need to blend this all together and then funnel it into molds.

Though @toronto.frenchie used paw-shaped ice cube trays for her version, you could also use more traditional stick lollys.

Chicken broth pupsicles

Some dog owners out there don’t like traditional kibble and instead, provide their dogs with a plethora of meaty options including various hearts and internal organs. This lavish diet often includes meat-infused broths, whether that be chicken or beef.

Sam Snell (@sit_fordogs) posted his recipe in 2021 that called for a whole liter of unsalted chicken broth. Simply freeze and serve with a smile. If you want to kick things up a notch, it could be worth freezing chunks of meat inside the chicken broth.

Immune boosting pupsicles

Though DIY dog popsicles might be fun, that doesn’t mean they can’t be super helpful and nourishing as well. This recipe, which comes from PetLab (@petlabco), is said to contain Immune-boosting and gut-nourishing properties.

To make these pupsicles, mash up banana and Greek yogurt with the back of a fourth until at the desired consistency. Spoon the mixture into your ice cube trays and then freeze.

Cut the work and straight to the fun

Of course, you might not want to spend ages in the kitchen making pupsicles when you could be making food for yourself. If that’s the case, then opt for something akin to Aldi’s revived the doggy ice cream that went viral on social media last year. Currently, it comes in Carrot & Apple and Pea & Vanilla.

Calming pupsicles

Despite the heat, some dogs don’t know how to chill out and just relax. Enter the Calming pupsicle, which Grey the Dalmation (@eatingwithgrey) enjoys often on TikTok. Starting with Greek yogurt as the base once again, mix in pumpkin and then spread onto a freezable toy.

The concoction can then be topped with whatever bits and bobs your dog enjoys, though Grey likes blueberries for their antioxidant properties. To finish it off, top with Wuffles CBD to help with anxiety, joint pain, and overall mood.
