Cambridgeshire Cats seeking a BAFA National Leagues Premier Division South double over London Blitz

Having ended their London Blitz hoodoo on the opening day of the campaign, Cambridgeshire Cats now have to prove that it was ‘no fluke’.

The Cats kicked off their 2024 BAFA National Leagues Premier Division South season last month with a 7-0 losing record against the Blitz.

However, a 34-28 triumph on Coldham’s Common halted the sequence, with that result being followed by a loss to Bristol Aztecs and a comprehensive win over Solent Thrashers.

Now the focus has turned to a rematch with the Blitz as the Cats prepare to head to Finsbury Park on Sunday (19 May).

And for head coach Andy Whiteoak, a positive result could prove crucial to his side achieving their targets.

“Our goal is to crack the top three and London Blitz finished third last year, so these are the types of games you’ve got to be looking to win,” he said.

“Blitz have been our bogey team down the years and while they’ve had a tumultuous few months with coaches and players leaving, they’re still a really good team.

“They’ve had a few more weeks together since we last played them and I expect it to be a big challenge. You would expect their relationships on the pitch to have developed since the last game.

“But we’ve got the monkey off our back now of having not beaten them, but we also have to prove it was no fluke.”

After taking on the Blitz, the Cats will break from action until 9 June when they return to action away at London Warriors.
