Sheffield Wednesday now discover James Beadle fate at Brighton as Owls hope for loan return

  • Exclusive from Graeme Bailey.

Sheffield Wednesday News understands that Brighton are ready to send goalkeeper James Beadle out on loan this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday signed Beadle, 19, on loan from Brighton during the January transfer window, with the goalkeeper going on to feature 19 times in the Championship, keeping eight clean sheets.

Beadle played an integral role in eventually keeping the Owls in the Championship, putting in some impressive individual performances in games against West Brom in particular.

Since the end of the season, it’s been reported that Danny Rohl is keen on bringing Beadle back to Hillsborough next season.

But there’s been some uncertainty over his summer ahead with Brighton, after Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi suggested that he wanted to have a look at Beadle in first-team training at the club this summer.

What’s more; Arsenal have recently taken an interest in Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele, potentially having a knock-on effect for Sheffield Wednesday if they want to re-sign Beadle.

But Sheffield Wednesday News understands that Brighton are ready to send England U20 man Beadle out on loan again this summer, even if they go on to sell Steele.

However, whilst Sheffield Wednesday are certainly keen on bringing him back to S6 for next season, there’s no current indication that the Owls are the favourites for his signature.

The goalkeeper conundrum at Sheffield Wednesday

A new goalkeeper is certainly required at Sheffield Wednesday this summer, with Beadle back at Brighton, and Cameron Dawson set to become a free agent.

It leaves youngsters Pierce Charles and Jack Hall as the only first-team goalkeepers going into the summer and so the need for a more experienced shot-stopper is clear.

And after seeing not only how well Beadle performed with the Owls, but how much he improved in such a short space of time, Rohl will surely be desperate to bring him back.

Brighton may also view Sheffield Wednesday as the ideal next destination for Beadle, with playing under Rohl meaning that Beadle is passing out from the back and playing in a very similar way to Brighton.
