SpaceX CEO and billionaire Elon Musk will visit the southeast Asian nation of Indonesia over the weekend to launch Starlink in the country.

What Happened: “Yeah, looking forward to the official launch of Starlink in Indonesia!,” Musk wrote, confirming reports.

Reuters on Thursday reported that the CEO will visit the Southeast Asian country over the weekend to launch Starlink. Musk is expected to launch Starlink satellite services with President Joko Widodo at a clinic in Bali’s capital, Denpasar, and also speak at the World Water Forum.

Starlink has already secured a permit to commercially offer its internet services to retail consumers in Indonesia.

This would be the billionaire’s first in-person visit to the country. He has previously spoken at a conference in Indonesia but via video, the report noted. Indonesia has long beeneyeing investment from Musk’s EV company Tesla, to no avail.

Why It Matters: Starlink is SpaceX’s satellite internet segment. The company has about 6000 Starlink satellites in orbit, expected to enable high-speed internet around the world.

In Asia, Starlink services are already available in Mongolia, Malaysia, and Japan.
