Hungary has vetoed a Council of Europe resolution on peace in Ukraine, citing the lack of consideration for Russia's position, citing Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó's statement.
He claimed that the expulsion of Russians from the Council of Europe has resulted in the loss of a platform for achieving peace.
"Instead of fantasizing about nuclear war, we finally need real peace negotiations. Real peace talks can only happen when all warring parties are at the table," Szijjártó said.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister vetoed the resolution, which acknowledges the peace formula proposed by Ukraine. According to him, other peace plans should also be considered.
"This is unacceptable for us. Others have proposed peace plans that are not worse than that of the Ukrainian president. I requested that these other peace plans be included in the Council of Europe's resolution. The majority rejected this. That's why I vetoed it, to prevent the Council's resolution," he added.
Hungary's stance on war
Hungary is almost the only EU country whose government frequently criticizes Ukraine. Hungary has blocked EU decisions regarding Ukraine's European integration.
Budapest has also opposed financial aid to Ukraine and blocks the implementation of new sanctions against Russia.
The country has not provided military aid to the Ukrainian army. Additionally, media reports have indicated that the Hungarian government has banned the transportation of weapons for Ukraine through its territory.
