'I am amazed': Sean Dyche can't believe Premier League decision this week

Sean Dyche can’t believe a decision the Premier League made this week ahead of the Toffees’ final-day clash against Arsenal.

Everton head to The Emirates looking to end their season on a high and, in-turn, end the Gunners’ slim title hopes.

Mikel Arteta’s men know they must win and hope Manchester City drop points against West Ham United.

It promises to be an emotional day for Everton, with Seamus Coleman making his final appearance for the club after announcing his imminent exit.

The Premier League announced their shortlist for the Young Player of the Year last Saturday.

Nominees included Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Destiny Ugogie.

One notable absentee is Jarrad Branthwaite, a decision Dyche cannot understand.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “The only one that surprised me was that Jarrad Branthwaite didn’t make the list. I am amazed by that. It’s not for me to pick them out.”

Another woeful decision by the Premier League

The Premier League’s decision to exclude Branthwaite is just the latest in a long line of poor calls from the governing body this season.

Unfortunately for Everton, they’ve been hit in the face with the Premier League’s incompetence throughout the campaign.

Hopefully, the decision on Branthwaite is the last time the authorities let Everton down.

As much as Dyche and the players deserve credit for their performances in recent weeks, the 2023/24 season has mainly been forgetful for so many reasons.

Now, off-the-field matters must be resolved, and a sense of optimism must be brought back ahead of the club’s last 12 months at Goodison Park.
