Gary Lineker shares what two former Tottenham managers have said about Daniel Levy after Ange Postecoglou rant

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker has now shared what two former Spurs managers have told him about Daniel Levy.

Ange Postecoglou‘s scathing rant on Tuesday night after the defeat to Manchester City saw the Australian take aim at the foundations of the club.

“The foundations are really fragile. The last 48 hours have shown me that,” the 58-year-old said at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And that will have seen some question what these comments may have said about his relationship with Daniel Levy.

A number of managers have came and gone in north London since the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino back in 2019.

Two of them, Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, have both been vocal in their criticism of the club and the ownership.

Now, Lineker has admitted he has spoken to previous Spurs managers and shared what they have had to say about working under Levy.

What Gary Lineker has revealed was said about Daniel Levy at Tottenham

Working under Levy comes with certain perceptions with Tottenham having failed to get their hands on silverware since 2008.

The Carling Cup 16 years ago is the only trophy which the club have lifted in over two decades of Levy being part of the north London club.

There will always be demands for more from fans and managers at any club and that is the case at Tottenham.

Spurs have had two good transfer windows under Postecoglou, but there is still room for improvement going into this summer.

However, speaking on The Rest Is Football show, Lineker has now suggested the Spurs ownership has had a habit of getting too involved with decisions which should be made by the manager.

“He won’t be the first to have frustration at the Tottenham ownership. When this happened, you see old interviews like Jose Mourinho, who said, ‘I have really good contacts with my former clubs, except Tottenham’,” Lineker said.

“Antonio Conte said pretty much the same thing, attacking the owners. I’ve spoken to one or two [former] managers there and they [the owners] can be a little bit interfering, let’s say, or can whinge a little bit about team selection from the upper echelons.

“Adding all those things together, I think there’s a little bit of a gripe about the leadership at Tottenham, way above [the playing side].”

Tottenham have to succeed under Ange Postecoglou

After sacking Pochettino, Spurs tried something completely different with Mourinho and Conte, neither of those worked out.

Levy has now gone back to a Pochettino-style appointment with a manager in Postecoglou who is bringing a long-term project to the club.

If Spurs do not lift silverware under Postecoglou then what next for Tottenham?

Heung-min Son is now nearly 32-years-old and it does not feel like the South Korean could still be the main man in another five years at the top of his game.

Next season does feel like a big one for Spurs. They have an exciting opportunity to potentially be playing in the Europa League and that could provide them with a real shot at lifting a European trophy.

What simply cannot happen is a repeat of this season’s cup displays.
