"Really positive" board meeting takes place at Celtic as Brendan Rodgers plans to strengthen team

Brendan Rodgers says everyone at Celtic will be aligned on ambitions heading into the new season as the club prepare for a big summer transfer window.

Celtic players, staff and supporters are all enjoying the aftermath of Wednesday night’s Scottish Premiership title win but, as we know, the quest for success never stops.

Rodgers is keen to put an emphatic full stop on the season with victory against St Mirren on Saturday and more silverware at Rangers’ expense in the Scottish Cup Final.

Beyond that, the club are busy working on recruitment plans with the manager needing to sign for positions across the team, including sourcing a new goalkeeper in place of the retiring Joe Hart.

The Celtic boss is feeling positive about the path ahead and has shared a productive meeting took place on Friday morning.

Brendan Rodgers on Celtic’s future plans

Speaking in a media conference, Rodgers said when asked about planning ahead: “Yeah, that’s always the case. We had a really positive board meeting this morning. We’re planning and looking forward, that’s always the case.”

Later, when asked about transfers specifically, he added: “We’ll have all summer to talk about transfers and everything else. We’re very clear on what it is we need to do to improve.

“The club work in a way and we will work in a way that allows this club to be sustainable. But we also want to progress on the field and that’s something we’ll all be aligned with.”

Celtic have the resources to recruit well

After record financial results for the year ended 30th June 2023 and another season of Champions League cash pocketed, Celtic have what they need to go out and pursue new talent.

Like Rodgers says, the club aren’t going to spend beyond their means. However, there’s a chance to really leverage the money available and build a team that can make Celtic more competitive in Europe, while asserting dominance in Scotland.

Importantly, the manager is stressing that the Celtic hierarchy are on board with his vision. That alignment is critical to success and hopefully it results in business we can all be excited about this summer.
