Peter Crouch suggests Man City have a player who is even better than Frank Lampard

Peter Crouch has suggested that one player in Manchester City’s squad is better than Frank Lampard was.

The former striker made 467 Premier League appearances during his playing career, facing off against and playing alongside a plethora of top-level players along the way.

This shows that the 43-year-old certainly has the credentials when it comes to recognising and talking about other players from the past and present.

In fact, the former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur striker has claimed that one of the Premier League’s current stars is better than one of its past legends.

In a recent short shared on the That Peter Crouch Podcast YouTube channel, the former striker was asked to pick between individual players from England’s 2004 squad and the current one.

When Crouch was asked to choose between Lampard and Phil Foden, the pundit went for Foden.

The former Chelsea and City midfielder scored 177 goals and delivered 112 assists in 611 Premier League games, winning three titles along the way.

Back in 2021, Lampard was one of the first former top-flight players to be officially inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, cementing his status as a legend of the English game.

Foden has been City’s star

In terms of Foden, the 23-year-old has made 268 senior appearances for City in all competitions since emerging from their youth ranks.

Across those games, the Englishman has found the back of the net 85 times, supplied 52 assists and lifted five Premier League titles, which could become six if City beat West Ham United on Sunday.

Taking into account how the England international has scored 17 goals in 34 league appearances this season and been named the Football Writers’ Player of the Year, this could be why Crouch chose to put Foden in his dream England XI over Lampard.
