'Wouldn't be surprised': Paul Merson says Arsenal will be even better if they sign £60m player this summer

Arsenal look like they might fall just short in the Premier League title race.

The deck is stacked against the Gunners heading into this weekend as they rely on Manchester City dropping points at home in order to have any chance of winning the league.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom at the Emirates.

Arsenal are likely to finish within two points of winning the league this season, and while that is agonising, there’s reason to be positive.

Writing in his column for SportsKeeda, Paul Merson has been discussing this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, and when discussing Newcastle’s final game of this season, he’s recommended Alexander Isak as a potential signing for the Gunners.

Paul Merson says Alexander Isak would improve Arsenal

The pundit gave his verdict on the £60m man potentially joining his old club.

“They (Newcastle) are a massive team, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of their stars moved on to win trophies. If Arsenal sign a striker like Isak, I think they go to another level,” Merson wrote.

Alexander Isak would improve almost any team

Merson says that Arsenal would go up a level if they signed Isak, and the same is true for almost any team in the Premier League.

Isak is likely going to finish this season as the second-highest-scoring striker in the Premier League, and that’s despite the fact he’s had injury issues throughout this campaign.

Isak is genuinely one of the world’s elite striking talents at the moment, and, aside from potentially Manchester City, he’d probably improve any team on the planet.

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Isak as of late, but, despite Merson saying he expects some departures from Newcastle, it won’t be easy to get a deal done for the striker.
