Report: What Newcastle scouts have noted about 'incredible' target with affordable release clause

It will be fascinating to see what Newcastle United do in the transfer market this summer.

Indeed, Newcastle are seemingly already plotting defensive reinforcements, with Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly of Fulham and Bournemouth respectively reportedly keen on signing for the club after talks.

Given the injuries in defence and the fact the backline has been nowhere near as good this season compared to last, bolstering options there makes sense.

What’s more interesting, in fact, is what the club might do in an attacking sense.

Goals haven’t been much of a problem this season. In the Premier League, only Manchester City (93), Arsenal (89) and Liverpool (84) have scored more than Newcastle’s 81.

In fact, so many players have found the back of the net for Eddie Howe’s side this season that they’ve equalled a Premier League record set by Manchester United.

Twenty different players have scored for the club and Newcastle could break the record against Brentford on Sunday, should any of Elliot Anderson, Emil Krafth, Paul Dummett, Nick Pope or Martin Dubravka make their way onto the scoresheet.

Changes, however, may be coming under PIF.

Miguel Almiron is expected to leave this summer and Callum Wilson has been tipped for an exit too.

Were they to depart, Newcastle would obviously need replacements.

Now, more insight has emerged about one particular target.

What Newcastle scouts have noted about Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig has long been linked with a move to St James’ Park, even during his Red Bull Salzburg days.

The forward, hailed as “incredible” by pundit Steve McManaman in February, is also reportedly of interest to Arsenal.

According to iNews, Sesko’s agent – Elvis Basanovic – is said to have met with Newcastle before the striker’s move to Germany last summer.

It is believed that Sesko has an “affordable” release clause of around £40m but the report adds that Newcastle scouts aren’t yet fully convinced.

They claim that the 20-year-old is still seen as a work in progress.

Benjamin Sesko might have already dealt Newcastle a transfer blow

Sesko certainly wouldn’t be the first player to say he wants to stay at a club only to leave when an offer actually emerges but he did in February confirm his desire to remain an RB Leipzig player.

“I want to spend a lot of time here because the club suits me well. We’ll see how many years it will be in total,” he said.
