Scottie Scheffler has given an insight into what he experienced in what turned out to be a chaotic morning after he was arrested just hours before the start of his second round at the PGA Championship.
A fatal accident outside Valhalla Golf Club in the early hours of the morning led to the second round of the PGA Championship being delayed with traffic delays outside the venue.
Local reports stated that Scheffler was trying to get into the golf club in order to prepare for his second round when he is said to have driven past an officer before being detained.
Scheffler was pictured in handcuffs as he went into the back of a police car and headed to jail.
There was plenty of uncertainty on whether Scheffler would be released in time to start his second round, but the 27-year-old eventually made his way back to Valhalla with around an hour left to warm up.
He faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, reckless driving, third-degree criminal mischief, and ignoring traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.
But Scheffler was able to put the ordeal behind him and put himself in contention of winning the PGA Championship with another impressive round at Valhalla.
He carded a round of 66 to leave him nine-under-par for the tournament heading into the weekend.
Scheffler faced questions from the press after his round where he opened up about his chaotic morning.
"I was pretty rattled to say the least," he said.
"The officer that took me to jail was very kind, he was great.
"We had a nice chat in the car and that kind of helped calm me down.
"I was sitting there waiting to go in and I asked him, 'can you just come and hang out with me for a few minutes so I can calm down?'.
"I was never angry, I was just in shock. I was shaking the whole time.
"I was shaking for like an hour. It was definitely a new feeling for me."
Scheffler didn't appear to hold any grudges against the officers involved and even shared a laugh about one exchange he had inside jail.
"The officers inside the jail were tremendous," he added.
"Couple of them made some jokes when a couple of them figured out who I was and what happened.
"This one older officer looked at me as I was doing my finger prints and said to me 'do you want the full experience today?'

"I looked at him and said, 'I don't know how to answer that' and he's like 'come on man, you want a sandwich?'. I'm like, 'sure, I'll take a sandwich, I've not had any breakfast yet'.
"They were really kind, I'm grateful we have such strong police and they're our protectors out there.
"We got into a chaotic situation this morning, that's all it was."
