England boss Gareth Southgate handed Harry Kane injury scare just a week before Euro 2024 squad announcement

Gareth Southgate will be sweating on the fitness of Harry Kane ahead of the 2024 Euros after Thomas Tuchel announced the striker is currently injured.

There's just a few weeks until the Euros get underway with England scheduled to play two warm-up matches against Bosnia and Herzegova and Iceland at the start of next month.

Southgate will want all of his best players fit and ready for the start of the competition with England captain Kane set to play a key role.

While the 30-year-old ended his debut season at Bayern Munich without a trophy, he still proved he's one of the world's best strikers by scoring 44 goals in all competitions.

Harry Kane has picked up an injury

Southgate will be desperate for the forward to be fit and firing on all cylinders for his country by the time England play their opening group game against Serbia on June 16.

But Tuchel is confirmed that Kane is currently carrying an issue that will keep him from playing Bayern Munich's final fixture of the season against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

"Harry is receiving treatment from his personal doctor," Tuchel said.

"He cannot travel. He was already at the limit in Madrid.

"It was a borderline decision for him to play.

"He had a complete blockade in his back, it's got worse and bothers him in everyday movements.

"There was no chance for him to participate in the game."

While Kane won't be playing any part of Bayern's final game of the season, he will be handed the Bundesliga topscorer award.

Gareth Southgate will want Harry Kane to be fit in time for the Euros

He will be given Kicker's prestigious cannon-shaped prize after scoring 36 Bundesliga goals.

Southgate has a few headaches in making his squad selection for the Euros this summer.

Jordan Pickford looks set to continue as England's No 1 in goal due to Nick Pope's absence since December as well as Aaron Ramsdale's lack of game time at Arsenal.

Defence is also an issue for England with Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Luke Shaw and Kyle Walker carrying knocks.

James has only just returned from a four-month injury lay-off while both Chilwell and Shaw lack match fitness.

Should Kane suffer any further injury setback before or during the Euros then Southgate will likely turn to Ollie Watkins, who has been crucial to Aston Villa securing Champions League football for next season.
