'One of the best players in the world' may have already made his last Tottenham appearance - opinion

Tottenham Hotspur will wrap up their Premier League campaign with a trip to Sheffield United on Sunday.

Spurs have enjoyed a fairly solid season in Ange Postecoglou’s maiden campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A year ago, a managerless Tottenham outfit limped to an eighth-placed finish, and the future didn’t seem all that bright at N17.

However, Postecoglou quickly set about changing things round at Spurs, and for a while they even looked like dark horses for the title this season.

Although Tottenham have suffered a downturn in form of late, their Europa League fate remains in their hands in their trip to the league’s bottom club.

In terms of team news, most Spurs players are available, except for one. And there’s a good chance he may have already played his last game for the Lilywhites.

The player in question is Giovani Lo Celso, who is a doubt after picking up a knock against Manchester City.

“The only one that’s a doubt is Gio,” Postecoglou told football.london on Friday.

“He got a bit of a knock when he came on and didn’t train today. But we train again tomorrow obviously.”

Lo Celso’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain. Earlier this month, Vamos Mi Sevilla reported that the Argentina international has asked to leave this summer.

The 28-year-old’s time at Spurs hasn’t been particularly fruitful, and this season hasn’t been much better in terms of game time. He has just 597 minutes under his belt.

And yet, Lo Celso has impressed in La Liga and for Argentina. Former Villarreal teammate Geronimo Rulli previously deemed the Tottenham man ‘one of the best players in the world’.

With Lo Celso’s contract only running until 2025, this summer is the last chance Spurs have of cashing in on the player and recouping a decent fee.

And if he isn’t passed fit tomorrow, then it looks like we’ve probably seen the last of him in a Lilywhites shirt. It’s a shame, but he’s better off leaving and kickstarting his career elsewhere.
