Report: Mikel Arteta is becoming 'increasingly irritated' with £200,000-a-week Arsenal star

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is said to be ‘irritated’ with one of his players recently.

The Gunners have had a fine season. They have gone toe-to-toe with Manchester City and are still in with a small chance of winning the Premier League title on the final day of the season.

Arteta deserves a lot of credit for what he has done, but the Arsenal boss has had his frustrations as well at different stages of the campaign.

Why Mikel Arteta is ‘irritated’ with Arsenal’s Thomas Partey

Arsenal signed Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

The Ghana international was viewed by many as the missing piece in Arsenal’s puzzle. On paper, he was everything they needed in the middle of the park.

Partey has produced a number of incredible performances for Arsenal during his time there. He was one of the biggest reasons why they challenged for the Premier League title in the 2022/23 campaign.

However, the constant issue with Partey has been injuries.

The 30-year-old has started just eight games in the Premier League for Arsenal this season, four of which have come in the last four games.

He has been a big miss in the middle of the park, and Football Transfers claim that Mikel Arteta is ‘becoming increasingly irritated with the lack of availability from his player’.

Partey too is said to be ‘frustrated’ with his role at the Emirates as there was a period when Jorginho was preferred to him in the middle of the park.

The report also reveals that Turkish giants Fenerbahce have enquired about signing Partey this summer, when he will enter the final year of his contract.

The transfer fee Arsenal would like for Partey

Arsenal signed Thomas Partey for £45 million in 2020 (Goal).

The Ghanaian signed a long-term contract at the Emirates then, with the Gunners agreeing to make him one of the club’s highest earners.

He pockets an eye-watering £200,000-a-week at Arsenal right now – only four players earn more than him at the Emirates.

With Partey entering the final year of his contract this summer, the report claims Mikel Arteta would be open to letting him leave.

However, it has been claimed that the Gunners would like to recoup ‘as much of their £45 million investment’ as possible.

So, the report suggests Arsenal would accept a fee of around €29 million (£25 million) for Partey, but that price could further go down due to ‘the prospect of losing him on a free transfer in 12 months’.
