'He just needs time': Noni Madueke says Chelsea teammate is an 'elite talent' who really excites him

Chelsea’s Noni Madueke has admitted that he’s really excited about one of his teammates and his future, but has asked for everyone to give him some time.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino is working with a Chelsea squad mostly filled with youngster, including 22-year-old winger Noni Madueke.

The English attacker has ended up having a good learning season for the Blues, scoring eight goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.

It’s interesting to hear comments from Madueke this week, where he’s singled out a teammate in the dressing room that he massively rates.

Noni Madueke excited by Chelsea player

Madueke claims that Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia has got “elite talent” and he’s buzzing to watch him play next season.

Unfortunately, Lavia’s debut season at Stamford Bridge has been one to forget. The 20-year-old midfielder has played one game all season because of separate injuries, which was a substitute appearance versus Crystal Palace back in December.

Madueke has urged for some patience when Lavia returns to fitness next season, but his own expectations are very high.

“I don’t want say I feel like anyone’s going to be better than anyone else. However, I’m really excited to watch Romeo play next season. He’s got bags of ability and it’s been unfortunate for him this season being out for so long,” Madueke told ESPN.

“But I remember when he played Southampton, he was outstanding. So really excited to see him. He’s a top player and he just needs time. He’s been injured for a whole season. He’s still very young, so it’s not really about putting a lot of pressure on him, just letting him grow and develop at his pace, but he’s got elite talent and a good mindset as well.”

Don’t forget Romeo Lavia

There’s no doubt that Lavia will feel like a new signing for everyone at Chelsea this summer.

The Blues coughed up a deal worth £58m (Sky Sports) when they signed Lavia from Southampton last summer.

For those who may have forgotten, the Belgian youngster is an aggressive defensive midfielder that has a lot of qualities on and off the ball. His introduction to the centre of the park may add more steel and control.
