Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham need to learn from something he did at Celtic ahead of next season

Ange Postecoglou has now insisted he wants to replicate something he did at Celtic with Tottenham Hotspur.

It has been a tricky week for the Australian manager to navigate at Tottenham following their defeat on Tuesday night.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium provided a mixed crowd against Manchester City with big repercussions on the line regarding the title race.

Ange Postecoglou provided a stern response on the notion of his players not going into the game giving it their all to hinder Arsenal.

And in the wake of the game, Postecoglou has admitted he may have read the room wrong in the lead-up to the game with the emotions of the fans.

However, he has now reassured fans that his ambition to succeed at Spurs has not wavered as he related back to something he did during his time at Celtic.

Ange Postecoglou says he wants to use Celtic method at Tottenham

During his time north of the border, Postecoglou enjoyed a lot of success with Celtic in a league which has been dominated by the two Glasgow clubs.

However, Celtic were not the dominant force before he arrived at Parkhead as Rangers had won the league the season prior to his appointment.

But Postecoglou was able to quickly turn around the dominance in Scottish football back to the Bhoys’ favour.

The Australian got his hands on five trophies during his time with Celtic and he has claimed a big part of doing that was his side focusing on their own game.

Speaking on Friday during his press conference at Hotspur Way, the Australian harked back to his time at Parkhead.

“When I started at Celtic, it was the same sort of discussion. Don’t forget, when I took over Rangers had won it the year before, and Celtic hadn’t won anything, which is quite extraordinary for that football club,” he said.

“Like, they’ve gone from trebles to not one trophy, and when I first got there, there was a lot of talk – some internal as well – about what Rangers were doing.

“And I was pretty consistent and it would be on public record, saying ‘we’ve got to worry about ourselves. Don’t worry about anyone else. Just be the best you can be’. And I’ve said a number of times that if you run your own race then when you get to the finish line, have a look around and see where you finish. Don’t worry about what the person next to you is doing.

“We were never going to catch them if that’s what we were always obsessed about because you can’t control that. You can’t control what another club does. You want to stop another club winning a trophy? Win it yourselves! That’s the answer. That doesn’t mean you don’t want them to lose. I get that absolutely.”

Ange Postecoglou pulled everyone back in with impressive press conference

Tuesday night was a difficult evening for the Australian who was visibly shocked by what he saw on the whole.

And the comments made after the game may well have been made in the heat of the moment.

There were certainly some things which were said that will not have gone down well with the Spurs fans but he was able to clear the air with his press conference on Friday.

Having had some time to reflect on the whole event which was Tuesday night, the Spurs boss has surely got everyone back on track at the club ahead of the summer.

A big few months lie ahead of Tottenham where improvements will hopefully be made as they look to finally get their hands on silverware.
