What Ange Postecoglou actually said to the Tottenham fan he confronted during Tuesday’s defeat

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou confronted a Spurs fan on Tuesday night during their game against Manchester City.

It proved to be a strange night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with anything other than a win for City handing Arsenal a free run at the title.

This saw a number of Tottenham fans conflicted as to what result they would like to see pan out.

Ange Postecoglou‘s frustrations were visible before, during and after the game against the champions-elect.

Questions had come his way in the interviews leading up to the game about whether the title implications would effect Tottenham’s application to the game.

Clearly infuriated by the attitude from some surrounding the game, Postecoglou exploded as he unleashed on a Spurs fan sat behind the dugout.

Another fan – who was sat near the fan in question – managed to capture the interaction and what was said by the Spurs boss has now been shared.

Tottenham fan faced the brunt of Ange Postecoglou’s anger on Tuesday

A strange atmosphere was noted by the 58-year-old after the game as he admitted it was not the usual noise created by the Spurs fans.

A defeat for Tottenham now means Europa League football is now the best they can achieve this season and it could even be confirmed on Wednesday night.

Any form of European football marks improvement for Tottenham after an eighth-place finish last season.

However, this is clearly not enough for Postecoglou whose anger got the better of him on the night as he bellowed his frustration towards one fan sat in the West Stand.

The footage is pretty damning and it was just the starter for what proved to be the main course when he spoke to the media after the game.

“What did you say? What did you say before that? Just so I know who you are. Don’t worry mate I gotcha, I know who you are alright,” Postecoglou said to the fan.

Ange Postecoglou must tread carefully

For months, Postecoglou has maintained that he “couldn’t care less” about Champions League qualification.

In the wake of his comments, Spurs fans have had to endure their side losing four consecutive games before this weekend’s victory over Burnley.

Tottenham lost touch with Aston Villa during this run of games and saw Spurs needing a mini miracle if they wanted to finish in fourth.

Throughout their recent struggles, the word coming out of Postecoglou is that Champions League football will not define Tottenham’s development.

The message that has been portrayed is that there is more to life than Tottenham playing Champions League football next season.

However, now some fans have taken on that notion – for one mere game – the manager has flipped.
