Report: Club have now expressed interest in signing 'influential' Chelsea player, door is open for offers

Premier League club Aston Villa have now expressed an interest in signing a Chelsea first-team player this summer.

According to fresh media reports, Unai Emery’s Villa side have set their sights on a Blues star.

Villa have already secured qualification for next season’s Champions League tournament, so it’ll be interesting to see how they strengthen their squad.

As for Chelsea, they go into Sunday’s final day at home to Bournemouth knowing they’ll secure European football themselves for next year if they avoid defeat.

Aston Villa want Chelsea star

The Telegraph has claimed on Saturday that Villa have now expressed an interest in Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

It is explained that Chelsea have made no progress with midfield star Gallagher over a new contract, which has left the door open for offers and interest this summer. As it stands, the 24-year-old is about to enter the final year of his deal.

The report adds that Midlands giants Villa have signalled their interest in Gallagher, plus they have a good relationship with Chelsea already.

Apparently, the player is valued at £50m. His price tag may need to drop as he enters the last year of his deal, though.

Also, Tottenham retain interest in Gallagher this summer and have been at the front of the queue before Villa’s arrival into the race.

Conor Gallagher is ‘influential’ at Chelsea

The Chelsea Chronicle would urge the Blues to keep Gallagher at all costs.

He’s been superb as the stand-in captain for much of this season, providing consistent displays as the energetic central midfielder. The England man has seven goals and nine assists in 49 Chelsea games.

Joe Cole described Gallagher as “influential” to Chelsea last month via talkSPORT (11:10am, 22 April). It’s a spot on assessment, too!

Worryingly, The Evening Standard has claimed that Gallagher is one of four players that Chelsea want to sell before the end of the June.

It’s going to be a huge blow if Chelsea lose Gallagher, especially to a league rival like Villa or Spurs.
