Report: 'Wonderful' player will now be allowed to leave Newcastle this summer

There could be a changing of the guard at Newcastle United this summer.

While FFP restrictions limited what Newcastle do in the January transfer window, it seems things may be rejuvenated somewhat at the end of the season.

The club are reportedly looking to raise significant money through player sales in Eddie Howe‘s squad.

Indeed, Callum Wilson is reportedly looking to leave.

Miguel Almiron, meanwhile, is thought to be attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia. Even Kieran Trippier’s future is uncertain at this stage.

Then there’s Martin Dubravka.

The goalkeeper, who has been hailed as “wonderful” by Alan Shearer, will be out of contract next summer and is reportedly also attracting interest from the Middle East.

Now, the situation has developed somewhat.

Newcastle have now decided to let “wonderful” player leave this summer

According to the Daily Telegraph, the club have now decided that Dubravka will be allowed to leave this summer.

The potential arrival of Aaron Ramsdale means Newcastle have decided the 36-year-old can depart as he would not want to operate as third-choice next season.

Newcastle could be getting a lot stronger in goal next season

Were Ramsdale to arrive and Dubravka to go, you’d have to say Newcastle will be getting a lot stronger in goal next season.

Dubravka, despite a strong showing against Blackburn in the FA Cup, has not always been convincing since replacing the injured Nick Pope in December.

At 36, it’s hardly likely he’s going to get any better, either. Coming towards the end of his contract, selling up makes sense.

Ramsdale has been hailed for his “contagious” character and charisma by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who has spoken fondly about the player’s reaction to being dropped for David Raya.

While battling with Pope for a starting berth won’t be easy, Ramsdale certainly looks as if he’s capable of the fight ahead.
