Report: Why Newcastle United still haven't agreed to let Dan Ashworth join Manchester United

Newcastle United still have not sanctioned a deal to let Dan Ashworth leave St James’ Park and join Manchester United.

A deal is going to happen at some point. Whether it is next week or the end of his gardening leave, Dan Ashworth is going to leave Newcastle United and start working for Manchester United.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is going to get the man he wants, but has so far been unable to agree compensation with the Magpies.

Comments from the Man United co-owner appear to suggest that Newcastle’s financial demands are over the top, with initial stories claiming that Toon officials want a package worth £20million. That is viewed as excessive, with Man United not wanting to pay that much money for a behind the scenes figure.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are trying to get a replacement. Dougie Freedman is the favourite, and Geordie Boot Boys have been told that appointing a new sporting director could speed up the process of Ashworth leaving.

Newcastle chairman impacting Dan Ashworth departure

Now iNews have provided an update on the Ashworth situation, and have suggested a new reason as to why the former FA chief still does not know when he will begin his new role at Old Trafford.

According to iNews, Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is seen as one of the reasons why a deal with the Red Devils has not been agreed.

They have not provided any further information, but have suggested that it could be a case of Newcastle sending a message to the likes of Man United that they will not be pushed around and ‘aren’t here to make friends’.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan has been in Newcastle recently

iNews add that business normally picks up when Al-Rumayyan is in town, with the PIF official having the final say on all major decisions at Newcastle United.

That is interesting, as Al-Rumayyan has been in the region this month. He was at St James’ Park to see the 1-1 draw with Brighton, and held talks with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak after the game.

Away from last weekend’s game, the 54-year-old was involved in a series of strategy meetings as the club aims to keep progressing on and off the pitch.

They need to keep closing the gap between themselves and the ‘big six’, and the initial hope was that Ashworth would help them do that. Now he is leaving, and the expectation from Man United appears to be that we should hand deliver him to Old Trafford with a pretty bow on top.

Newcastle United are not going to do that, as they continue to prove they will not be pushed around under the ownership of PIF.
